Focus

At Science from Scientists (SfS), we offer a variety of programs throughout the year designed around our mission to teach and inspire the next generation to identify and solve real-world problems by improving STEM literacy.

Our core In-School program is our innovative, award-winning In-School Module-Based (ISMB) STEM Enrichment Program. The goal of this program is to improve student attitudes and aptitudes in STEM. SfS partners with elementary and middle schools to send the same two real, charismatic scientists into schools (during the school day) to see the same group of students every other week throughout the entire school year. SfS instructors coordinate with classroom teachers to select one of our 90+ hands-on lessons. All lessons are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and state frameworks.

Our Out-of-School programs, which include Vacation Programs, Science Theater and Community Presentations, engage larger audiences in STEM-based activities.

About

Science from Scientists (SfS) was founded in 2002 by Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a doctorate in biochemistry from Boston University School of Medicine. SfS piloted its first programs in Boston in 2005 with five part-time staff. We expanded to San Mateo, CA in 2014, and Minneapolis, MN in 2016. Over the last 15+ years, SfS has grown to be an organization employing 51 staff members (12 full-time staff and 39 part-time staff) who are bringing their love and knowledge of science to communities across Massachusetts, California, and Minnesota. Of these 51 staff members, 43 (or 84%) are instructors for the In-School Module-Based (ISMB) STEM Enrichment Program. This year, SfS instructors are teaching more than 7,000 students in 55 schools, and, since our founding in 2002, SfS has worked with over 50,000 students.
